HS van der Walt High School

Attending HS van der Walt High School was a uniquely personal and sometimes terrifying experience, more often that not bordering on traumatic as the girls were forced into an environment not of their choosing. The circumstances surrounding each individual was as varied and different as you could imagine yet in the midst of all the drama, the school provided a haven and education, discipline and routine, friendship and cameraderie that left a lasting impression on everyone who attended.

 

I would like to know YOUR story and to this end have compiled the following to help you put your memories to paper. Once there are sufficient stories, I hope to create an anthology for general publication because I believe that these stories should be told, and shared, and relived. Just because the school no longer exists, does not mean that the girls who lived there and survived their tenure, should be quietly forgotten.

• What hostel/s were you in?

• Where did you come from and describe your home circumstances?

• Why were you sent to HS van der Walt High School?

• Describe your time at the school, both the highs and lows, giving as much detail as you can remember

• Can you provide details of the happiest and saddest time at the school?

• Looking back now, what is  the one thing that you learned back then that helped you the most in your adult life?

• Was there someone in particular who influenced your time at the school - either positively or negatively?
